With Mummy’s Wish now officially part of the Rare Cancers Australia (RCA) support program, I wanted to personally share our intentions for Mummy’s Wish moving forward.
We believe in the purpose of Mummy’s Wish and are committed to its continued impact. Like Mummy’s Wish, RCA holds closely the value of a person-focused approach, where we listen and provide specialised support, so that no one goes through their cancer diagnosis alone, rare or otherwise.
Having had my own personal experience with breast cancer when I was diagnosed 10 years ago and being a mother to two young children at the time, I understand the enormous challenge of trying to be a great mum when you are going through treatment. I also am acutely aware of what Mummy’s Wish means to the 900+ mums it supports each year and the value it can bring to a family.
In fact, many of the staff at RCA bring their own lived experience and understand the affect cancer can have on a family. It’s one of the things that makes RCA different when it comes to our support services.
Our Specialist Cancer Navigators offer one-on-one support for each person who calls, helping direct them to what they need, providing them with valuable resources and information, introducing them to a network of peers, and assisting them financially when they need it.
We are committed to continuing the hard work and legacy of Mummy’s Wish Founder, Bernadette Vella and Chair, Jennet Niven, by expanding the offering of practical support provided to as many mums with cancer as possible.
I am delighted to share that the dedicated team of staff from Mummy’s Wish joined us in their existing roles and are working closely with us to continue the program. You can rest assured that Mummy’s Wish is in the best of hands.
We are working hard to ensure the least amount of disruption and change during this transition period; however, should you experience any issues or have concerns I encourage you to please reach out to the team and let us know so we can address it.
Please reach out to us at contact@rarecancers.org.au should you have any queries or would like to just say hello. We look forward to the now secured future of Mummy’s Wish and to continuing to support and make a difference for Australian mum’s diagnosed with cancer.
