Connecting our community

When a mum is diagnosed with cancer, Mummy’s Wish is here to provide practical support for mums, and help families navigate the diagnosis together. One of the resources we offer is a comfort bear for each young child, with a recordable heart.

But it’s not as simple as plucking a bear from the shelf and popping it in the post. We’d like to share a little more of what happens behind the scenes to get a bear from our office to your child’s arms.

It all starts with our incredible volunteers. We regularly welcome groups of volunteers from workplaces, schools or students completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award. On our volunteer days, groups come to our office and start the day hearing more about Mummy’s Wish, so they understand the impact and importance of their contribution.

Then the fun starts. Each bear is carefully stuffed and weighed to ensure the perfect level of cuddliness. Nobody wants a bear that’s too floppy, or worse, too hard!

Our volunteers also love giving each bear a test cuddle, sending them on their way with extra care, along with a recordable heart for your special message.

If you’d like to learn more about our bears, our support, or how your group can get involved in a volunteer day, please email us at contact@mummyswish.org.au
